Safeguarding & Responsible Media

SAquaSolve Rwanda works with communities, young people, schools and field participants. The principles below guide how we engage with people and how we tell their stories. This page states our commitments; it is not a substitute for a fully adopted internal safeguarding policy, which SAquaSolve is developing as the organization's governance matures.

Our commitments

• Dignity first. We represent the people and communities we work with as participants and partners, not as passive recipients.
• Informed consent. We seek informed consent before photographing, filming or quoting anyone for public use, and we explain how the material may be used.
• Extra care with children. Where children may be identifiable in photography or video, we apply additional care and, where required, parental or guardian consent.
• Non-exploitative storytelling. We avoid imagery or language that sensationalizes hardship or portrays communities primarily as objects of pity.
• Right to decline or withdraw. Anyone photographed, filmed or quoted for SAquaSolve's public materials may decline participation or ask that specific material not be used.
• Vulnerable participants. We take particular care in how we describe and depict anyone in a vulnerable situation, and we do not disclose more than necessary to tell an honest story.
