What we do
Four program areas, one mission.
SAquaSolve Rwanda's work spans infrastructure, community health, research and youth programming — not a single kiosk in a single community. Gashora is where the first of these programs is furthest along; the mission is Rwanda-wide.
Safe Water Infrastructure
Community-scale treatment, pumping, storage, distribution, water access points, monitoring and sustainable operations.
SAquaSolve designs and develops community water systems that take locally available non-potable water and turn it into a safe, reliable drinking-water service: source and intake infrastructure, pumping, treatment, solar energy, treated-water storage, distribution and community water points, adapted to the conditions of each community served. The Gashora system is the first instance of this program.
Water, Health & Communities
WASH and public-health education, safe household water practices, community engagement, operator training and local ownership.
Safe water only works as a service if communities understand it, trust it and help run it. This program covers WASH and hygiene education, safe household water handling and storage, community participation in project design and decision-making, and training for the local operators who will run each system day to day. Two-day WASH workshops in Gashora with Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology (GGAST) are the first completed work under this program.
Water Research & Innovation
Water-quality testing, source assessment, feasibility work, engineering, evidence generation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
SAquaSolve tests before it designs. This program covers water-quality testing and monitoring, source and site assessment, feasibility studies, hydraulic and technical engineering, and the evidence base that determines what a given system needs — rather than applying a fixed design regardless of the source. Lake Mirayi's water-quality characterization is the first active work under this program.
Youth & Environmental Stewardship
Youth ambassadors, water and STEM education, leadership, source protection, conservation and climate resilience.
Safe water and a protected source go together. This program is intended to engage young people through education, mentorship and leadership opportunities connected to water, science and environmental stewardship, alongside source protection, pollution prevention and climate-resilient practices around the water bodies communities depend on. The relationship with GGAST is the foundation this program will build on; a standalone youth program does not yet exist.
Status, honestly
Active, underway, and being developed are not the same thing.
SAquaSolve labels each program area by its real current state rather than presenting future ambition as existing operations. Safe Water Infrastructure and Water Research & Innovation are underway through the Gashora system; Water, Health & Communities is active through completed GGAST workshops; Youth & Environmental Stewardship is being developed.
